TNX - Another Way to Monetize Your Site
When it comes to website or blog monetization, its always a good idea to diversify. For example, if the only thing you do is AdSense, then you only have one source of potential income from that blog. I mention AdSense specifically because it seems to be the most common.
Another way is by selling text ads on your website, and a great way to do this is through programs like TNX.net. Rather than summarizing it, I’m going to quote from their site what they do:
TNX.net allows publishers to sell links from each page on their website, and for advertisers it allows to buy millions of links from other sites in few clicks. TNX is a convenient tool that allows publishers and advertisers to save time, efforts and money: in just a few minutes you can have thousands of links from hundreds of high quality relevant sites linking to yours.
All links are direct, they are located on main pages and inside pages that are also very important. Ads are displayed mostly on well-noticeable spots so they can attract visitors. The system can be used to promote main page of the advertiser’s site as well as inside pages.
Site publishers can not only use TNX.net to earn money, they can also use it to promote own websites by taking advantage of our system as an advertiser (balance in the system is unified).
So basically what you are doing is placing some code on your site or blog to display free text link ads, and other site owners will buy that space through the TNX System. The more people buy space on your site or blog, the more you can make from a system like TNX. They also have an affiliate program so you can promote them directly as an affiliate as well.
Think about it: people don’t have to click on your ads or anything like that, you just have to have people inside the system buy that space. This is a great way to add to your different revenue streams for your site.
My thoughts on it:
I think its worth a shot. I haven’t personally used this particular system before but I’m going to give them a try over the next couple of weeks and see what happens.
One thing to understand about this system is that it’s all based on points. As you display ads on your site you earn points. Then you have several different options of what to do with those points:
- Transfer points to another user
- Use points to advertise your own site
- Cash in points for money
The points system will probably take a little getting used to. According to TNX the current exchange rate is $.73 for every 1000 points. So I’ll have to see how quickly the points add up. I’ll probably give an update on this in about a month, but for now its looking like a pretty good program!

Text links are a good way of monetizing your blog. Be sure it is done in such a way that will not hurt your page rank as google is making a backlash on the PR of blogs or sites with text links.

Thanks for the tip, Dan. I’m going to check this out also.

I’m thinking of doing a blog with text links, now I see this other comment from Aurelius Tjin ,stating that google has some kind of backlash on blogs, or sites with text links?
I am going to look for anything I can find out about this subject, and will share what I find. James

hi Dan! thanks for sharing. i should check this out also. thank again for the tip. Wishing you all the BEST for 2008 and ALWAYS!

great tip! Thank you for letting me know about this! keep posting.

I’d personally be quite cautious of selling text links in this way after the recent crack-down from Google. It may not be specifically what they are targeting, but it won’t be long before it’s included in Google’s terms of service.

Always nice to have another way to make money!

Thanks for sharing. May be text links are a good way of monetizing your blog but we should keep in mind “Aurelius Tjin’s” word.

that is surely a great tip. and i agree with Aurelius Tjin. thanks for sharing Dan. have a nice weekend:)

I haven’t yet try that system. Probably I’ll more about from it, before getting a try. I think this could be a great way also to monetize my blog.

After seeing what happened to some PR8 sites for selling text links the last round of Google updates, I’ve been paranoid about even posting free links between my sites out of fear Google might assume they were paid for. It is a shame for site owners, as now what was once safe and profitable is now very risky.

I must admit I hadn’t heard of this company before. May be worth googling to gauge some reaction before jumping in

Thats really promising, but it sounds like the Qantas frequent flyer system, something that i didn’t like. Im a bit cautious at the moment of monetizing my site like that but i may change my mind in the near future.

I think TNX works dual way - make money for yourself and also to generate advertising credits for your own site…
but sometimes i think their point system is rather rediculous - some might not notice how their discount system work - still they are the one who makes the most cash..

I was wondering if you have an idea on how quick the points add up now that it has been about a month? Is it worth the effort, or is the payout too small? I am very curious to know.

Thanks for the post!
I checked it out the other day and did a little research… Apparently it works, but some consider it to be risky since google is so strongly against the whole system. Only time will tell I guess!

I agree it is best to find multiple ways to monetize a site. It’s very risky to rely only on Adsense. Google can decide to close your account anytime.

I’d be very careful of using any text-link brokers these days. Matt Cutts has made it very clear, Google are on the lookout for these activities.

This seems to be all the rage now. When I checked it out it didn’t seem like much.. I’ll have to give it a better shot next time around.

I used TNX on one of my sites for 2 months. It outperformed TLA as far as pay per month.
[Reply]
Hi, how are you doing with this so far? If you wouldn’t mind sharing how exactly you earn points (how many impressions it takes, etc.) it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for sharing. Cheers.

As a publisher, don’t put this on a site you value. As an advertiser, point it at tertiary sites, not your main breadwinner.
People who set these things up often leave big fat footprints Google can follow e.g. PayP3rP0st.

Awesome advice. It like to try to monetize my site with ads. Thanks for the post.

I am very happy to find new tips about making money online but I think that we should be very carefull when we decide to sell text links because we can’t forget about the recent crack-down from Google.

I wonder if google will ever crack down on this huge link exchange, it sounds too good to be true right now.
[Reply]
I recently signed up for tnx and testing it. they game me around 2000 points to play around with. I’ll see how it goes in a month or two.
[Reply]
I might have a try of this, but well see how it goes.

I have looked in to this company and other like it but am still shopping

You need to be careful when purchasing text links because of Google’s rumored policy of penalizing sites that purchase links. A sudden spike in the number links a site gets may be a signal that triggers that penalty.
[Reply]
Lot of sites mention that such link based sites is on the top list of Google’s penalizing policy.
Is it true?
[Reply]
Google is putting a stop to paid links or is at least trying to. I think this is nazi behavior. They want you to pay them for links and ads but you better not have anyone paying you. This is just plain wrong.
[Reply]
I think that as time goes on Google will get stricter with their link profiling. I have recently seen several sites suffer from heavily buying text links. The suffered because the site selling the text links had their PRs dropped.
[Reply]
Thanks for tip Dan, I will try this.
[Reply]
Wow! nice post buddy!
I’ll will in touch with you …on the Blog

I have used TNX in the past and I have found that their system is a great way to build reputable related backlinks for a relatively low cost. I love it so far.

What kind of text link ads can you run with adsence and not get it trouble with Google

almost any. The bigger problem these days is that if you do paid links like this your PR is likely to drop.
[Reply]
The trouble with TNX is that there are loads of scamming webmasters faking PR, but TNX is getting far better at weeding out these bad apples.
