Stop Making Excuses for Yourself

I wrote a post today on my site SupplementPricing.com that I feel applies to more than just health and fitness.  So rather than rewriting the post here and applying to eCommerce, I’d recommend you head over there and read the original post.  Think about how the concept relates to a business or anything else you’re looking to accomplish in life.  Then come back here and leave me a comment about what you thought.

Here’s the quote from Tom Venuto that started it all:

You can either make excuses or get results, but you can’t do both!

Here’s the link to the post on SupplementPricing.com: Stop Making Excuses, Start Getting Results!

So here’s the challenge: stop making excuses for why your business isn’t going as far as you’d like.  Look for the excuses you’re making, and then get over them and start working on results.

Here’s another great quote from Mark Sanborn:

Fear nothing in life but to waste the present moment.

Make every moment count.  If you do something, don’t let it be an excuse later.  Do things consciously, with a choice.  Then you can start working on making the right choices that will move your forward rather than being pushed around by life.

Make every moment count just stands out massively in this article. I am currently trying to start my own business and have started a blog as a beginning point. After reading this I know I am doing the right thing because life is too short to be stuck in a job you hate. Also I have read ‘Stop Making Excuses, Start Getting Results!’ and the points you make under ‘developing the passion’ is awesome. This is great advice for anyone to take on board.

Keep up the great work

I was thinking a lot about this very thing the other day. Time is such a precious item, and we waste it so often! When our business isn’t making enough headway, we look to complain rather than find the solution.

Food for thought. Thanks for the post.

It is very easy to make excuses and its a good point made set realistic excuses. So many people myself included set unrealistic goals, then when you don’t reach them you feel demotivated. If I set realistic goals in the first place, then when I achieve them It will give me a big boost and encouragement to try harder.

Cheers

True. It’s one of those things which is essentially fairly straightforward. Just need to get moving, more or less in the direction of your goal, as opposed to remaining stationary, rationalizing said situation. Unfortunately, it’s here that a lot of people falter. You can see it on blogs all the time. So many blogs have been abandoned. It can get hard after a while to keep pounding out post after post over weeks, months and years.

Once you find that perfect excuse, you say to yourself, there ain’t nothing i can do to change the outcome, thus you are at peace with yourself and nothing ever gets done.

The second quotes really stick in my mind “Fear nothing in life but to waste the present moment”. Most of us miss some significant event and enjoy our lives just because of being afraid of the consequences that might happen after deciding to do a thing. I think is about believing in yourself and having faith in everything that you decide. How can you able to achieve the things that you like if you don’t have the guts to take the risk. Taking risk isn’t bad, is something that enable us to explore life, that may lead us to attain our goal.

I had this problem when I was like 12. I would say something untrue and then yell at myself (in my head) who knows why things slip out, but just remind your self every time you do it that it is wrong. Eventually it will sink into your subconcious and you will think before you speak.

Excuses are a defense mechanism that can last for so long. One should just realize the cause of these and take actions for the consequences. What are the biggest excuses you’ve heard or seen from business mistakes? Is there any famous business that has risen up from a huge mistake in the past that could be a good example for recovering small businesses? How can one postively take the no excuses attitude on with the recession going on?

As business owners, we have all had projects that have failed, so rather than make excuses, the smart will analyse what went wrong and see how they can improve so that this won’t happen again.

Excuses will only hold you back from achieveing true success…

I find myself making excuses without knowing it’s excuses. And the fear that accompanies so many moments in life tells us stories that we tend to identify with and believe it’s the truth.
Many times I find myself believing my own lies and with those excuses I avoid being in the moment, doing what I want to do, and feeling what I’m feeling…
