Other Options for Business Blogging

Posted on October 4th, 2007 in Offsite SEO, Marketing by Dan

Sometimes you may find yourself in a situation where you cannot directly attach a blog to your main domain name. For example, maybe you are using a website builder that doesn’t allow you to get access to the FTP side of things, so there is no way for you to add any blogging software. Does this mean that you can’t take advantage of blogging for your business? NO!

In this situation, what you’ll want to do is buy another domain name that is very similar to the regular domain name. For example, if the name of your main domain is SomeBusiness.com, you could get SomeBusinessBlog.com. Here are the benefits of doing things this way:

Link Building

In this situation you can really get a link building benefit. Every time you write a new blog post, use one of your main keyword phrases and link it back to your main domain name. Since you have a separate domain for your blog, each one of these links can count as an inlink to your main site.

Interaction

You can still get the interaction from a blog on a different domain that you will on the same domain. All you have to do is link from your main domain over to the blog. Most people won’t even know the difference when they go over there.

The one thing that you don’t get from doing things this way is the build up of content because you’re on a different domain name. But if you are unable to add a blog to your main site, don’t let that stop you from reaping some of the benefits of blogging.

I agree with this too. “Back links” on another site are a great thing - it will keep search engines coming back and following the link to your main web site. I’ve used free blogs from blogger and wordpress to point visitors to my main site.

Another benefit of this is that you can use different meta tags on your blogs - phrases that you want to be found for that you may not have used on your regular website. For example, since my blog is mainly about information and not necessarily products, I use what I call “browser phrases” for my meta tags on the blog. Browser phrases are things like “Free Information | History of Something | Etc”. A “buyer phrase” is tied more in to actual tangible products that people are probably looking to buy. I use these in my main website meta tag titles because those are the visitors I want most to come to my site - THE BUYERS. Thanks for the post.

I do agree to this although I have not used this technique yet. I have two domain names similar to the service I provide on the web and I am in a phase of developing a blog on my other site. Let’s see how it works. The whole idea of the blog is not only to provide information (which is also great) but also expressing yourself and most importantly market recognition. Great way to get people to your site!

I use a site builder that prevents you from using a FTP but it comes with the technology to ad a link that makes you able to go directly to wordpress or other such sites. Even better it has a built in blog builder with that makes it so you can have a separate domain name for you blog.

The good thing about blogging is that you don have to masterising PHP programming or other Web programming language. It is easy-to-use and you can do a lot of thing and not just for business.
